FRUGAL MAMA RIBS {Pork Neck Bones, Chicken Backs, Goat/Lamb Neck Bones or Veal Soup Bones} & Bourbon Spiked BBQ Sauce {Gluten-Free & Paleo}

I like to consume ALL of our animals from head to toe. Nothing should go to waste, but often these cuts are overlooked or underutilized to their fullest potential. BTW- Pork neck bones should not be used afterwards to make bone broth for humans, but dogs can benefit from it and you can also always bury those bones in the garden to use as an amazing mineral supplement. In fact, I hope you are cooking all your bones in a compost pile if not directly burying them in a garden to take advantage of all the mineral stores these regenerative animal bones provide.

When Rohit & I were on our honeymoon in Maui, we made friends with a spectacular sushi chef our very first day on the island. In celebration of our marriage, he invited us to come see him every day that week so he could make something special for us. He very lovingly spoiled us every evening that week with a new style of poke. He explained the how's and the why's of how each fish is prepared in the various styles of poke. Making MEDICINAL Bone Broth:

What you will need:

1.       Beef marrow or soup bones or chicken back or chicken neck bones or lamb bones or veal bones or fish bones with head on preferred or chicken feet (Iím not adventurous enough for rooster heads yet but when using feet- chop off the tips of the toes with the nails to avoid a mess later)- pasture raised animal bones. You can also add some chicken livers during the last 2-3 hours of your broth cook time to draw out essential nutrients from livers if you are still unable to eat them!

2.       Fresh ginger root and turmeric root

3.      Real salt

4.      Crockpot (I prefer 8 quarts or more but 6-7 will obviously work fine)

5.      Distilled water

6.      Quart sized SMALL MOUTH mason jars

7.      Mason jar funnel is EXTREMELY handy & HIGHLY RECOMMENDED but not required

8.      Fine strainer

Easy Peasy Pot Roast

Make sure your roast is well thawed and then rinse and pat dry before searing in the cast iron pan. Stainless steel can also work, but it is a mess to clean unless you are sure to use a good amount of fat. I like to use bacon grease to sear beef. It gives it an incredible and Smokey flavor that is out of this world!

We consume very limited amounts of nightshades in our home.  Nightshades cause inflammation and when you are working hard to heal your gut it helps to remove nightshades from your diet.  Nightshade fruit & veggies also contribute to arthritis, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.  Once you are healed you can re-introduce them in limited amounts but I'm not sure I feel the need to go back to them. Nightshades include tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes (*not tubers like sweet potatoes), sweet & hot peppers, ground cherries and goji berries.

I like to ferment any grains we consume.  Soaking them in cultured raw dairy naturally produces an acidic environment that will pre-digest those grains for us. Fermentation naturally neutralizes anti-nutrients. Fermentation will naturally increase the vitamin content of your grains, giving you a more nourishing food product. Fermentation naturally decreases the starchiness of grains as the friendly organisms eat it up and produce acids.

I am not interested in doing this to get everyone to join my CSA- I canít feed everyone and my CSA doesnít fit everyoneís lifestyle.
